Ewing Records.......morning
"Good morning, Jill," Bobby says.
"Morning, Bobby," Jill says.
"Jill, this is Bridgette Williams," Bobby says.
"Hello, Bridgette."
"Hi," Bridgette says with a smile.
"Jill, Bridgette is going to be working here. She's gonna be our new full time receptionist."
Jill smiles. "Well, that's great. Welcome to Ewing Records."
"Thanks," says Bridgette.
"I want you to show her the ropes," says Bobby.
Eric walks into the reception area at that moment. He stops in his tracks when he sees Bridgette, a look of shock on his face to see her in the office with Bobby.
"Hey, Eric," Bobby says. "Eric Fairgate, this is....."
"Bridgette is gonna be working here. I hired her as our new receptionist."
"I see," says an obviously displeased Eric. "Bobby, can I talk to you for a second? Please?"
"Yeah, sure. Jill, show Bridgette where everything is," Bobby says, then he and Eric walk into his office and Bobby closes the door. "Eric, I know this was a surprise, seeing Bridgette Williams here, but......."
"Bobby, with all due respect...... have you LOST your mind?" Eric asks. "Did you forget that you told Dylan to come in and talk to you about a job?"
Bobby gasps as he puts his hand over his open mouth. "Oh.....my......God. Oh, geez, damn it! Yeah, I did, I totally forgot about Dylan."
"Dude, what's up with that? Did that Williams chick work her wiles on you and then ask for a job?"
"What? No."
"Then why the heck did you give that receptionist job to Brandon Williams's sister, of all people?" Eric asks. "I mean I know she's totally hot, but, dude, come on. Are you seriously gonna have HER and Dylan working in the same office? Dylan killed her brother."
"Yeah, I KNOW, Eric. I just forgot."
"How could you forget something like that? When did you see her and hire her anyway?"
"Last night."
Eric looks at him. "Are those the same clothes you wore to work yesterday?"
"Yeah, so what if they are? I didn't have any clean ones."
"Bobby, please tell me that you didn't.......with HER?"
Bobby looks at him and remains silent.
"Oh wow, dude. BRIDGETTE WILLIAMS?"
"Eric, I don't wanna talk about this anymore."
"You had sex with Brandon Williams's sister?"
"Eric, just drop it, okay? Right now, I've gotta try to figure out what I'm gonna do about Dylan."
"What you're gonna do about Dylan? It should be obvious. You tell HER that you made a mistake and she can't have the job. Bobby, you have to. That girl can get a job anywhere, but Dylan......dude, you offered him a job here first."
Bobby sighs deeply as he looks at Eric. He walks over to the door and opens it slightly, looking out at Bridgette as Jill is showing her the particulars of the receptionist job. He shakes his head in frustration, not sure of how he was going to tell her he made a mistake in offering her the job.
Seaview Circle....
"Well, kids," Julie says, taking two suitcases out of the back of her car. "This is it. Home. What do you guys think?"
"I like it," Alisha says. "I think it's pretty."
"Will?"
"Yeah, whatever," the boy says.
Karen walks over to them, followed by Betsy and her kids. "Julie, hi!" Karen says.
"Hi, Karen," Julie says, greeting the older woman with a hug.
"Welcome to the neighborhood. And, here is someone I know you'll remember. It's Betsy."
"Oh my God, Betsy! Look at you!"
"Julie, it's so wonderful to see you again after all these years," Betsy says, greeting her with a hug. "I couldn't believe it when my Mom told me you were moving back here."
"I couldn't believe it either," Julie says. "Everything happened so sudden. Oh, Karen MacKenzie and Betsy Ewing......these are my kids.......Will and Alisha."
"Hello, kids," Karen says. "Julie, your daughter is beautiful, just like you. And your son is so handsome."
"It's very nice to meet you both," says Betsy. "Oh, and Julie, it's Betsy AVERY now. And these are MY kids, Laura, and Daniel, Jr. We call him DJ."
"They're beautiful."
"Thanks."
"So, kids, you have got to meet my grandson, Eric, and Betsy's nephew Dylan," Karen says. "They're both 18, and Will, I believe your mother told us you're 18, too."
"Yeah, das right," the boy says rudely.
Karen and Betsy exchange looks. "Well, Eric is at work right now, but he'll be home this evening. He works for Betsy's brother Bobby."
"But Dylan's home," says Betsy. "And, I think he's kinda bored, so when I get back, why don't I have him come over and meet you. I'm sure you guys can become good friends."
"Don't bother," Will says. "I aint lookin' to make no friend around here. Especially no white ones." Will brushes past his mother and heads toward the house.
"Will, you come back here and apologize!" Julie says angrily, but her son keeps walking. An embarrassed Julie turns to her friends. "Karen, Betsy, I am SO sorry about that."
"You gotta forgive my brother, he's a jerk," says Alisha.
"No, it's fine," Karen says.
"The reason Will is like that is...........it was a white kid who killed his father," Julie says. "And ever since then, Will is.......just difficult. But please, give him time. Once he gets to know all of you, I'm sure he'll act differently."
"I sure hope so," says Betsy.
"Hey, if there's anything we can do for you," Karen says. "Anything at all, just let us know. I mean, if you need help moving your stuff in."
"Thanks, but, the moving men are taking care of the big stuff, and we don't have a whole lot of other stuff to move," Julie says.
"Listen, why don't the three of you come over to my house for dinner tonight?" Betsy asks. "Maybe once Will meets everyone, he'll loosen up."
"Thanks, but, I don't know....."
"Please consider it," says Betsy. "I'd love to sit and catch up, and you haven't met my husband."
Julie smiles. "Okay, we'd love to."
"Great. 7 o'clock?"
"Sure, that sounds fine."
"We will see you then, and of course, Karen, I'll expect your family there, too."
"Oh, of course, wouldn't miss it. Julie, we'll see you tonight, and like I said, if you need ANYTHING, just yell."
"I will, Karen, and thanks."
"Bye," Karen says as she and Betsy walk away.
After the new neighbors are gone, Julie puts her arm around her daughter. "I could STRANGLE your brother for that."
"Yeah, so could I, Mom," Alisha says. "But......maybe you made a mistake movin' us to an all white neighborhood."
Molly and Scott's apartment....
Molly walks into the room. "Hey, there, little brother. Getting all settled?"
"Yeah. Just unpacking."
Molly walks over and puts her arm around him. "I can't tell you how happy I am to have you here. Scott feels the same way."
"Mom will be fine," says Molly. "She always is."
"Yeah, I guess."
"But what about you, baby brother? Are YOU okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good. Especially now that I'm here, away from all the memories. You know......new environment and all."
Trevor smiles. "Thanks. Means a lot, sis."
"Trevor, have you spoken to Dylan since you've both been home?"
"No," Trevor replies very quickly, turning away from his sister.
"Not at all?"
"Nope. Not at all."
"Mind if I ask why?"
"No reason, I just........I didn't get to see him or talk to him in the detention center, so, no reason to now."
"But, the two of you were such good friends."
"That's right, Molly. We WERE good friends. WERE."
"So what happened?"
"Brandon Williams happened. Molly, why would Dylan wanna see me? Because of me, he got dragged into that whole mess and his life was ruined. He killed someone because of me, and he's gonna have to live with that from now on. If I were him, I'd never even wanna hear my name mentioned, much less see me again."
"You'll never know until you try," says Molly. "The stuff you and Dylan have gone through together, you guys have a bond that you don't have with anyone else. Couldn't hurt to give him a call. Well, I'm gonna let you get unpacked and settled, and then, since today is my day off, why don't we go down to the beach for a while? You haven't been since last summer."
"The beach? Okay, sure. Sounds great."
"Okay, then. Hurry and finish unpacking." Molly kisses her brother on the cheek, then walks out of the room.
After his sister is gone, Trevor walks over to his dresser and opens the top drawer. He takes out a photo and looks at it........a photo of himself, Trevor, and Eric, taken last summer.
The Sumner Ranch....
"Yes, Gerald?"
"Ms. Fairgate is here to see you."
"What, AGAIN?" Asks an annoyed Greg as he takes off his glasses and looks at the butler.
"Yes, sir. She says it's important that she see you."
Greg sighs in frustration. "Tell MIZ Fairgate to go away."
"Yes, sir," Gerald says, then walks back up to the house where Abby is waiting by the patio doors. He speaks with Abby, who gives him another message to relay to his boss. Gerald again walks down to the steps leading to the pool area. "I'm sorry, Mr. Sumner, but Ms. Fairgate says it's of the utmost importance that she speak with you, and she says she isn't leaving until she does."
"Oh, for Pete's sake," says a disgusted Greg. "Alright, tell the.......lady.......she can come on down."
"Yes, Mr. Sumner," Gerald says. He again goes back up to Abby and tells her that Greg will see her.
Abby smiles, then makes her way down the steps to where Greg is seated by the pool. She is holding
"You really must have a problem understanding English," Greg says, looking at her. "When I told you the other day to get outta my house, that did not mean for you to come back and harass me today."
"I'm not here to harass you, Greg. Simply to talk a little business."
"You and I don't have any business to discuss, either now or at any time in the future," Greg says as he stands to face her.
"Let me rephrase that," says Abby. "I'm here to negotiate with you."
Abby smiles. "You may want to change your mind when you see these," Abby says, placing the file on the table beside Greg.
"What the hell is this?" Greg asks.
"Take a look," replies Abby. "I'm sure you'll find this very interesting."
Greg picks up the file and opens it. He puts his glasses back on and looks over the first page, then turns to the next and reads it. After skimming over the third page, Greg takes off his glasses and looks at her.
"Well, NOW can we negotiate some sort of trade? Your incriminating files......for mine?" Asks a smiling Abby.
"Very impressive," Greg says. "How'd you get all this information?"
"I have my ways. I've been working on this for quite some time now, and when I want something, I get it."
"This was a long time ago," Greg says, retaking his seat at the table by the pool.
"Yes, it was, but, as we both know, there's no statute of limitations on murder, Greg."
"I didn't murder anyone."
"Those documents say otherwise. Ted Melcher. Remember him?" Abby walks over and looks down at Greg.
"There's no concrete proof in these files that I had Ted Melcher killed. The guy just left town, that's all."
"According to Neil Douglas, your henchman, you forced Ted Melcher out of Knots Landing because you were jealous of him and Paige. And Douglas........made sure that Ted would never return."
"Neil was a little overzealous," Greg says. "He took matters into his own hands, without any orders from me."
"Do you really think the police would believe that?"
"You're just grasping at straws, here, Abbs. There is NOTHING to tie me to Ted Melcher's demise, nor is there any proof that Melcher is even dead. As far as anybody's concerned, the guy just left town to start a new life someplace else after Paige rejected him."
"If Neil Douglas were to talk, and I believe he can be convinced to do so, then Ted's body will finally be discovered after all these years. And I'm sure it would only be a matter of time before the murder is traced to YOU. So, do we negotiate?"
"And suppose I don't?" Greg asks.
"Well, if you don't, then I take this information I have to the police. You can keep that file, by the way. I made copies."
"So, you go to the police with those old files about Ted Melcher from some 27 years ago, and what happens? I go to prison simply on the word of some thug like Neil Douglas, is that is?"
"That's it," replies a smiling Abby. "Neil Douglas is 75-years-old now, and terminally ill with pancreatic cancer, so he has absolutely nothing to lose by confessing, and he has the incentive of gaining a clear conscience by getting this and other crimes he committed for you off his chest before he prepares to.......meet his maker, as they say. And as an added incentive, when I spoke to Neil, I promised to make sure that his wife and family will be very well taken care of financially from now on, in exchange for his confession."
"And if, by chance, I do happen to occupy a prison, you can be damned sure that you'll be in the cell block next door, babe, because I will make sure those files I have on YOU also find their way into the hands of the authorities and that little bank book showing that you deposited all that money into the account of a certain young man who is no longer with us......will find its way into the hands of your son," Greg says as the smile fades from Abby's face. "So ya see, Abbs, you really don't have me over a barrel like you THINK you do. I can live with bein' in prison. Question is......can YOU?"
"You're forcing my hand, Greg. And I don't LIKE being pushed into a corner."
"As Rhett said to Scarlet.......frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."
"Those files......Ted Melcher, Rachel Wagner........that could ruin you. Tarnish your name and your reputation forever, AND land you in prison for the rest of your life."
Greg stands from his seat and looks at her with a smile. "And those files I have on you, as well as that Brandon Williams bank book, could do the same thing for you, and you have a whole lot more to lose from this than I do." Greg smiles. "Looks like we have each other by the proverbial ball, doesn't it, blondie? You send me to prison, and I'll send you to prison. Or we could just learn to co-exist peacefully, each of us knowing that the other has the power to ruin us at any given moment. I like that alternative a little better, how about you? You're still a rank amateur compared to me, Abbs. You're never gonna get one over on me because I plan to ALWAYS to stay two steps ahead of ya. Nice try, though, babe. And I think I will keep this copy of your little blackmail file with me. It'll make for some good bedtime reading one night. You can show yourself OUT." Still smiling, Greg turns and walks away from Abby.
A seething Abby watches Greg as he walks up the steps and back to his house. "This isn't over yet, Greg," she says quietly after he's gone. "I always get what I want, and I won't stop until I get those damned files and that bank book."
Cunningham Enterprises.....Abby's office, a short time later...
"Bill, this is Abby," she says. "I have another job for you to do, and make this one top priority. I want you to find out any and everything you can about a Dr. Charles Wilson. Yes, he's Greg Sumner's physician. My original plan didn't work, so now, I have to use a backup. Yes, as I said, I want any information you can dig up on Dr. Wilson, even his grammar school records. Well, as soon as possible. YESTERDAY would be preferable, Bill, but I'll settle for you getting this information to me by tomorrow." Without another word to her friend, Abby ends the call and puts her phone down. She smiles.
LAC USC Medical Center.....
"Well, who's the subject of the hospital gossip today?" Daniel jokes.
"No one, Dr. Avery, we were just chatting," replies one of the nurses.
"Of course, Dr. Avery," the nurse says as the other nurse and the male intern walk away.
Meanwhile, the elevator down the hall from the nurse's station opens and Betsy steps off. Spotting her husband at the nurse's station, she walks over. Daniel has his back to her and doesn't see her as she walks up behind him. "Good afternoon, Dr. Avery," she says.
Daniel turns around to face his wife and smiles. "Hey, sweetheart, what brings you down here?"
"As a matter of fact, you're in luck," says Daniel. "I've had a busy morning and early afternoon, so I haven't had time for lunch yet, but, I have an hour before my next appointment."
Betsy smiles. "My timing is perfect."
"As always. So, you wanna go to the cafeteria downstairs?"
"Sure. I also wanted to ask if you're gonna be home by 6 this evening."
"I should be," says Daniel. "Why?"
"We have guests coming for dinner."
"Guests? Who?"
"Pretty much.......everyone," replies Betsy.
"Everyone, as in......"
"As in.....everyone in the cul-de-sac. I invited Julie Williams Evans and her two kids over, and naturally, I invited Karen and Mack and their family, and Mom, Dad, and Bobby, too. You know, to kind of welcome Julie and the kids into the Seaview Circle family."
"Well, I think that's a great idea," Daniel says.
"I'm glad you approve. I already talked to Jason about it."
"Good. How's Dylan?"
"Dylan is okay, but, I am kind worried about him staying in his room so much."
"Just give him time, honey," Daniel says. "After all, the poor kid was locked away in that detention center for almost 10 months. It's gonna take a little time for him to adjust being at home again. But I AM glad that we talked Jason out of finding their own place, at least for now. I think it's important for Dylan to be with the family and not at home alone all day while Jason's at work."
"I agree," says Betsy.
"So tell me, what's Julie like? I always wondered about the family who bought my family's old house."
"Julie is so sweet. And so's her daughter. But her son, Will.......he has a bit of an attitude."
"Don't all teenage boys?" Daniel asks.
"Yeah, but Will's is different. He doesn't seem to like......white people very much."
"Really?"
Daniel and Betsy walk over to the elevator and Daniel pushes the 'down' button. "Julie said that his father was killed by a white kid, and it's affected Will's.......outlook," Betsy says.
"That's terrible. Well, we'll just have to show the kid that there are some good people left in the world," Daniel says as he and Betsy get on the elevator.
Cunningham Enterprises....
"Thanks, send him in," Brian says. He stands from his seat as Scott walks into the office.
"Brian," Scott says.
"Hey. I'm guessing you're here because you've made a decision about my job offer?"
"Yes, I have made a decision," Scott says.
"And you talked it over with Molly?"
"I did, and she said it was totally up to me whether I take the job or not. She doesn't wanna influence me one way or the other."
"So what'd you decide?" Brian asks. "As if I even have to ask. I'm guessing since you're not at the garage today, you've decided to take me up on my offer."
"Yes, I have. I'll take that job here."
Brian smiles. "Scott, that makes me very happy. Very happy, indeed," he says extending his hand to his brother. "Welcome to Cunningham Enterprises."
"Thanks, big brother."
"I know this is gonna make your Mom very happy, too."
"I'm sure it will," Scott says. "Mom always hated the idea of me working at the garage."
"So have you quit there yet?"
"I went in this morning and told Al, my boss, that I wouldn't be coming back."
"Good," Brian says. "Say, listen, I was just about to head out to lunch. Why don't you join me?"
"Only if you're paying," Scott says with a smile.
Brian laughs at his brother's comment. "Of course, I'm paying, who else?"
"Great, then you're on."
"Kate told me that Trevor had moved in with you and Molly for a while."
"Yeah, he did."
"Maybe that's the best thing for him," Brian says. "There are a lot of memories for him at the house, both good and bad. I just wonder why he didn't wanna come stay with me."
"I think it'll do Trevor a lot of good, being with Molly. And Brian, you don't have a thing to worry about. Molly and I are gonna take real good care of Trevor while he's with us."
"I know you will. Come on, let's go to lunch, and we can talk about your new job here at Cunningham. I'll explain a little about the company and what your job will entail." Brian and Scott leave the office together.
Ewing Records.....late afternoon
Bridgette walks into the office. "You wanted to see me?"
"Yeah, I do. Have a seat."
Bridgette walks over and takes a seat in the chair in front of Bobby's desk. "What's up? Is anything wrong?"
"Bridgette, all day I've been trying to find a way to tell you this," Bobby says.
"Tell me what?"
"I made a mistake. A HUGE mistake."
"A mistake?" Bridgette asks. "I see. I see what this is about. You made a mistake in hiring me, is that it?"
"No. I didn't say that."
"You didn't have to. It's written all over your face, and your friend, Eric, I see how he looks at me."
"Bridgette, this whole thing is my fault," Bobby says. "It's not about you, not really. When I offered you this job, I completely forgot that I had already offered someone else a job here first."
"Someone?" Bridgette asks. "Who?"
"Dylan Avery," replies Bobby. "I told him to come in one day this week, and I'd give him a job here."
Bridgette nods as she fights back tears. "I see. Well, I guess that's that, then. I'll be going." She stands from her seat and starts to leave.
"Bridgette, wait," Bobby says. "I'm sorry. I really am. Look, if there was ANY way for you and Dylan to work here together......."
"But there ISN'T," Bridgette interrupts. "Dylan Avery killed my brother, and there is NO way I could ever be around him."
"I understand. Bridgette, I feel terrible about this. I really do"
"It's fine. I should've known it was too good to be true. Good things happening in MY life usually are too good to be true."
"Look, I can loan you some money to get you by until you find another job. I'll even do whatever I can to help you find one."
"No thanks," Bridgette says. "I don't need anymore of your......help." She turns and starts to leave. Bobby walks over to her.
"Hey, wait a minute," he says, grabbing her by the arm. "Bridgette, if there were any other way around this. If only I hadn't promised Dylan a job here."
"Like I said.....it's fine," Bridgette says, a slight tone of anger in her voice. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go."
"Hey.......can we still see each other?" Bobby asks.
Bridgette looks at him for a moment. "I don't think so," she says, then quickly rushes out of the office.
Bobby sighs deeply in frustration. "Damn it," he says angrily, slapping his forehead.
Seaview Circle.......late afternoon
"Hey, let me help you there," he says, kneeling down to pick up the clothes.
"Thanks. Guess I just didn't have this one taped up well enough," Alisha says.
"Yeah, I guess not," Eric says, placing the clothes back into the box. "Here, why don't you let me carry this one?"
"Thanks," the girl says.
"Sure, no problem. By the way, I'm Eric Fairgate. I live right over there, two houses down. And you must be Alisha, Julie's daughter."
"Yes, I am. And it's very nice to meet you, Eric Fairgate," Alisha says with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too, Alisha, and welcome to Seaview Circle. I hope you and your family will be very happy here."
"I'm sure we will be. It's really nice here, and we've already met two of the neighbors, a Betsy Avery and Karen.......something."
Eric laughs. "Karen MacKenzie. That's my grandmother."
"Oh, wonderful. Mrs. Avery invited us over for dinner tonight."
"That's great," says Eric. "Yeah the neighbors here in this little cul-de-sac are all like family."
"So I see," Alisha says as she picks up the last of the spilled clothing and places it back into the box.
"Come on, I'll help you get these in," Eric says.
Alisha's brother, Will suddenly emerges from the house. "What the hell's goin' on here?" The young man asks, an angry look on his face.
"The bottom fell out of this box, and our neighbor here came over to help," replies Alisha.
"Hi, I'm Eric Fairgate. I live two houses down."
"Yeah, so?"
Eric looks at Will curiously for a second. "Come on," he says to Alisha. "I'll help you get this stuff in."
"We don't need no help," says Will. "I'll take that." He grabs the box from Eric's arms.
"Yeah, okay, sure," Eric says.
"Eric, thank you so much for your help," Alisha says.
Eric looks at the girl and smiles. "You're welcome, Alisha. All in a day's work. And again, it was nice meeting you, and welcome to the neighborhood."
"Thanks."
"Bye," Eric says. He gives Will another puzzled look, unsure of what to make of Alisha's brother's rudeness, then turns and walks back toward the MacKenzie home.
Alisha watches Eric as he walks away for a few seconds, then turns to her brother. "Why the hell did you have to be so rude to him? He was trying to help."
"We don't need his help," Will barks at his sister. "I seen the way that dude was lookin' at you. You stay away from him."
"Why? Because he's white?"
"That's right."
"Will, I am getting sick of your racist crap....."
"Racist? You callin' ME a racist? You forgettin' our dad was killed by one of them?"
"No, I'm not forgetting," says Alisha. "Yes, Daddy was killed by a white person, but so what? Would you hate all black people if he'd been killed by a black kid?" Alisha picks up one of the boxes and storms into the house.
Will looks over toward the MacKenzie home and watches Eric as he goes inside.
The Avery home.....that night
"Val, where's Bobby tonight?" Karen asks.
"He said he had something he had to take care of," replies Val.
"Yeah, more like SOMEONE," Eric blurts out.
"Oh?" Val asks. "Someone like....who?"
The boy looks at Val, embarrassed that he had opened his mouth. "Oh, umm, I just meant, knowing Bobby he's probably got some girl he's out with."
"Bobby hasn't dated since he and Meg broke up," Betsy says, further making Eric uncomfortable.
"Just forget I said anything."
"Julie, we're sorry your son couldn't join us tonight," Daniel says.
"Yeah, Betsy says your son.......Will?.......is the same age as Dylan," Jason says.
"That's right, he's 18," says Julie. "Will was just.......tired."
As the adults talk, Eric and Alisha exchange looks across the table, as well as smiles, a gesture that doesn't go unnoticed by Dylan, who smiles at the two, sensing an attraction between Eric and Alisha.
"So Julie, how do you like your new house?" Gary asks.
"We love it. And Michael, thank you so much for showing me the house."
Michael looks at her and smiles. "Oh, it was my pleasure."
"Julie, we're just happy to have you and the kids in the neighborhood," Mack says. "And I'm happy to have you as a partner in my law firm."
"Here, here," says Karen. "Julie, I can't tell you how happy I am to have you back here again after all these years. And we all look forward to getting to know your kids, too."
"Thank you, Karen, that really means a lot," Julie says with a smile.
"I met Will this afternoon," Eric says.
"Really? You didn't tell me that," Karen says.
"How'd that happen?" Michael asks his son.
"When I came home, I saw Alisha carrying some boxes, and some stuff spilled out of one of them, so I went over to help."
"Yes, and Eric was a MAJOR help," says Alisha.
"Well, that was very nice of you, Eric," Julie says.
"No problem. Will didn't seem very appreciative, though."
"Eric, I'm really sorry if my son was rude to you," Julie says. "Will has just had a really hard time since his father died."
"I can certainly relate to that," Jason says. "I remember how hard it was for me after I lost my Mom."
"I went through the same thing when my father died," says Michael. "So Julie, if your son ever needs anyone to talk to, some of us here have been through what he's going through now."
"I really appreciate it, guys. That means a lot."
Michael looks over at Julie and smiles.
Julie's house.....later
"Night, Alisha," Michael says as the girl goes into the house.
"Michael, thank you for walking us home," says Julie. "You really didn't have to."
"It was no problem, really."
"I see your son not only gets his father's good looks, but he also gets being a gentleman from you, too."
"Well, thank you. It really was a nice evening."
"Yes, it was. And everyone has been so wonderful. I know the kids and I are gonna love it here."
"I sure hope so," Julie says. "Well, I'd better get going, it's kinda late. I'll see you later, Julie."
"Goodnight, Michael, and thanks again."
"Sure. Night," Michael says. He turns and walks away as Julie watches him with a smile.
Bridgette's apartment.....the next morning
"Bobby, what are you doing here?"
"Needed to talk to you," Bobby says. "Since you refused to answer my phone calls or texts last night, I decided to come over and wait for you this morning. I figured you'd have to come out sometime."
"We have nothing left to talk about," Bridgette says.
"Bridgette, come on."
"Look, I'm on my way out to look for a job."
"Give me just a few minutes?" Bobby asks. "Please?"
Bridgette hesitates a moment, then sighs. "Okay, fine, come in. But make it fast."
Bobby walks into the apartment and Bridgette closes the door behind him. He turns to her. "I'm really sorry," he says.
"You already said that."
"Bridgette, I could really kick myself for making such a stupid mistake," Bobby says. "I just completely forgot that I had told Dylan to come by the officer for a job."
"So you weren't just playing some kind of cruel trick on me?" Bridgette asks.
"Trick? What? Why would you think that?"
"What am I supposed to think? I told you I was let go from the department store, so you offer me a cushy job as a receptionist at your record company. I go in, learn the job, and after my first day you pull the rug out from under me? I bet you and your friends thought that was pretty funny. We're gonna just pay back Brandon Williams's sister for all his crimes."
"How can you even think that about me?" Bobby asks. "Especially after the other night?"
"So, we had sex. So what? Maybe that was part of the set up, too. Including that creep at the bar who was harassing me."
"You're not serious. You REALLY think I set that up?"
"Did you?"
"Okay, if I did, then just how would I know that you were gonna stop into THAT particular bar the other night, huh? Answer me that?"
"I don't........I don't know."
"Exactly, because it didn't happen that way, and I did NOT offer you that job just to mess with you. Bridgette, the other night, you and I, we really clicked. Really connected. When I offered you that job, it was a sincere, and honest offer. I just let myself get carried away after what happened between us, that Dylan just escaped my mind. But I swear, I never meant to hurt you. You gotta believe that."
Bridgette turns away from him and starts to cry.
Bobby walks over and puts his hands on her shoulder. "Bridgette, I wanna make this up to you. Look, if it'll make any difference, I'll just call Dylan and tell him that I don't have any job openings right now."
Bridgette turns back around to face him. "You'd do that for me?"
"Yeah. I would."
"No, Bobby. You can't do that. After all, you offered him a job first. I was just upset because I thought you were just trying to hurt me."
"I'd never do that," Bobby says, gently touching her face. "Bridgette, I really care about you. And I wanna keep seeing you. I don't want my stupid mistake to cause us to never see each other again."
"Well, we have one problem there," Bridgette says. "Unless I can find a job, and soon, I'm gonna have to get out of this apartment, and my only option is to go back home to my parents."
"My offer still stands. Let me loan you the money for your rent and for your car."
"No. Bobby, I won't accept your charity."
"It's NOT charity. Bridgette, I want you to stay in Knots Landing. That's why I'm doing it. And, after that huge mistake, I figure I owe you at least that much. And by next month, I'm sure you'll have another job. I'll even help you find one."
Bridgette looks at him and smiles through her tears. "You really are amazing, Bobby Ewing. I don't quite know what to make of you."
"Well that's good," Bobby says, putting his arms around her. "Because I like to keep an air of mystery around me."
Bridgette laughs at his comment. The two look into each others' eyes for a moment, then Bobby kisses her. After a few seconds, Bridgette pushes him away. "Shouldn't you be getting to work?"
"I own the company, which means I'm the boss. I can show up any time I want."
The two smile at each other, then start to passionately kiss again.
Cunningham Enterprises....
"Well, Scott, hello," Abby says with fake sweetness.
"Abby, how are you?"
"I'm just fine. What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to......" Scott's reply is interrupted when Brian comes out of his office. '
"Morning, Scott," Brian says. "Come in."
Scott looks at Abby, then walks into his half-brother's office.
"Mom, was there something you wanted?" Brian asks Abby.
"What is he doing here?" Abby asks.
"Scott's gonna be working here. I gave him a job," Brian replies.
"You did what?" Abby asks, surprised. "Brian, why would you do that?"
"Because Scott is my brother, and......because Cathy asked me to."
Abby sighs. "Cathy. I should've known."
"In fact, I was gonna talk to you about that today. I'm gonna put him in charge of our small companies division."
"The small companies division?" Asks a nervous Abby. "Brian, I've been handling that division myself."
"I know, but I figure putting Scott in charge of that division would free up some of your time for other divisions, such as the IT division. That's always been your specialty, anyway. Now if you'll excuse me, Mom, I don't wanna keep Scott waiting." Brian turns and goes back into his office.
Abby is left with a worried look on her face after learning of Brian's plan to make Jeff and Cathy's son head of the small companies division. "Damn it," she mutters softly to herself.
"Is everything alright, Ms. Fairgate?" Brian's secretary asks.
"Yes. Everything is JUST peachy," replies a sarcastic Abby as she turns and storms out of the office.
Abby's office.....few minutes later....
"Abby, what's wrong?" Asks Henry Wong, Abby's assistant, as he walks into her office a few minutes later. "Your message sounded urgent."
"This IS urgent, Henry."
"What's the matter?" Henry asks.
"These documents concerning Harris Computers, and any documents or contracts that might be......compromising.......pertaining to anything having to do with our small companies division.......I want you to shred. ASAP."
"Shred? But why?"
"Because as of today, I am no longer in charge of that division," replies Abby. "Brian has put his snot nosed, incompetent half-brother in charge of the small companies division, and I don't want him to find or accidentally run across anything that might be......."
"Incriminating?" Henry asks.
"I was going to say......compromising."
"I see."
"Here," Abby says, handing Henry a stack of papers. "Shred these and any others in our files or in the safe."
"Alright, I'll get right on this."
"Thank you, Henry. Just make sure there isn't anything Scott Cunningham can find."
"I will. Right away, Abby. But, ummm, what about our operations?"
"Shut everything down," says Abby. "At least for now. Until we can find another venue."
"Your partners will NOT be happy," Henry says.
"They'll be even LESS happy if my ex-husband's son stumbled onto something that could incriminate us all in money laundering. Now, get busy shredding those documents and files."
"All in a day's work," Henry says. He nods, then walks out of the office.
Abby sighs deeply. "Damn it, Brian. WHY?" She asks. "I didn't have enough to worry about already with all this crap Greg Sumner is holding over my head, but now, I have Jeff Cunningham's and Cathy Geary's kid to worry about, too."
MacKenzie And Associates......early afternoon
"May I help you?" The secretary, a middle aged woman with glasses, asks.
"Greg!" Says a happy Meg as she steps out of her office.
"Well, hello there, beautiful," Greg says as he hugs his biological daughter.
"What on earth are you doing here?"
"Well I came to see you. And to talk to your old man for a second, is Mack in?"
"Yes, I think he is. Dorothy, is my father in his office?"
"Yes, he is, Meg," Dorothy replies.
Meg smiles. "Hold on, Greg. I'll see if he's busy."
"I'll be right here," says Greg.
Meg walks over to Mack's office and knocks on the door. "Come in," she hears him say. Meg walks into the office and closes the door behind her. Mack is at his desk going over some depositions with Julie. "What's up?" Mack asks.
"I hate to disturb you, but Greg is here to see you."
"Greg? As in Greg SUMNER?" Mack asks.
"Yeah, Greg Sumner," Meg replies.
"What in the world could HE want?"
"Only one way to find out," says Meg.
"I'm busy, I don't have time for him now," says an irritated Mack. "Tell him I moved to Siberia, or, better yet, tell him I died."
Meg gives her father a look of disapproval.
"Alright," Mack says. "Tell him he can come in. Julie, I'm sorry, we'll finish this later this afternoon."
"That's fine, Mack," Julie says as Meg leaves the office. "Greg Sumner? He's still alive, huh?"
"Yeah, and still as big a pain in the ass as ever."
"It' amazing how little has changed in Knots Landing since I moved away."
Greg walks into the office at that point. "Mack, thanks for seein' me. And.......wait a minute, I know you," he says, looking at Julie.
"Hi, Mr. Sumner. I'm Julie Williams. Julie Evans now."
"Of course. Frank's little girl. I had no idea you were back in town."
"I moved back a few days ago. I'm Mack's new partner."
Greg smiles. "Well, how about that. And how's your old man?"
The smile disappears from Julie's face. "He, uh....."
"Frank passed away ten years ago, Greg," Mack says.
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that."
"Thank you. If you'll excuse me. Mack, I think I'm gonna go ahead and go to lunch if that's okay?"
"Yeah, that's fine, Julie. We'll finish these depositions later."
"It was nice seeing you again, Mr. Sumner," Julie says.
"Yeah, you too, kid," Greg says as Julie leaves. "Well, she's still as lovely as ever."
"Yeah she is. So what do you want?" Mack asks.
"I just thought I'd drop by and say hi to Meg, and ask you if you've heard anything from Paige recently."
"If I had, do ya really think I'd tell YOU?" Mack asks.
"No, not really."
"Good, glad we understand each other, and now ya can leave."
"C'mon, Mack. You might as well give me Paige's address because I'm not gonna stop until I find her and my son."
"No one said that Patrick is YOUR son," says Mack.
"Mack, I'm not stupid. All ya gotta do is look at that kid to know he's mine. The kid's the spitting image of me when I was young."
"Yeah, well, hopefully that's a handicap my grandson will outgrow."
"Look, what do ya want me to do?" Greg asks. "You want me to beg, is that it? All I want is to get to know my son."
"And Paige doesn't want you anywhere near her or HER son. I dunno how to make that any clearer."
"How would you have felt if Ann had tried keeping you away from Paige."
"Ann DID try to keep me away from Paige."
"So you know what I'm going through right now," Greg says.
"The difference is, Paige is justified in not wanting you to be a part of her kid's life," Mack says. "If there were an award for world's WORST father, you'd win it, hands down. And besides, Paige left you because you said you didn't wanna have anymore kids."
"I know what I said, but that was a long time ago."
"So what's changed?"
"I'm older now. Wiser, and more settled, and I'm ready to be a father," Greg says.
"Let me make this as clear as I can, Sumner......I am NOT giving you Paige's address, and you'd just be wasting your time to try and hire a detective to find them. Now, I think we're done here, so you can leave."
Greg looks at him for a moment. "I'm gonna find 'em, if it's the last thing I ever do, and you can tell Paige that next time you talk to her. So she might as well just let me see my kid because I'm not gonna stop until I do." Without another word, Greg walks out of the office.
Mack shakes his head. "That guy," he says in frustration.
Cunningham Enterprises....
"Umm, just a moment," Henry says as he shuts off the shredder and tries to hide as many of the files as possible. Once he has shoved the files and folders into his desk drawer, he takes a seat at his desk. "Come in," he says.
Scott walks into the office. "Hello, are you Henry Wong?"
"Yes, I am," Henry replies, standing from his seat.
"Hi, I'm, uh, I'm Scott Cunningham. I'm Brian's brother, and I just started work here today."
"Oh, is that so? Well, welcome to Cunningham Enterprises. How may I help you?"
"Brian has put me in charge of Cunningham's small companies division, and he tells me that you can provide me with information and any files I may need to familiarize myself with the division."
A nervous Henry looks at Scott for a moment. "Yes, that's right."
"Great, well, then, Henry, I'd really appreciate you having those files on my desk by the end of the day."
"The end of the day.....today?" Henry asks nervously.
"Yes. Today. I'm really anxious to get started, and I need to look over those files and documents so I can familiarize myself with whatever subsidiary companies Cunningham owns, what their functions are, and their annual profit margin."
"Fine, I'll.......I'll have those for you."
Scott smiles. "Thanks, Henry. I'm really new at this and I have a lot to learn, so I'm sure I'll be asking you for a lot of help and advice."
"I'll be happy.......to offer any help that I can."
"Thanks again. See you soon," Scott says, then walks out of the office.
After Scott is gone, Henry retakes his seat at his desk and picks up his phone. He dials Abby's extension. On the third ring, she answers. "Abby, we have a BIG problem. Scott Cunningham just came into my office, and he wants to see all the files on the small companies division, by the end of business today. No, I don't think I will be able to put him off."
